DON DOKKEN Says New DOKKEN Album Is Similar To 'Tooth And Nail'
July 11, 2005Don Dokken (DOKKEN) has issued the following update:
"Hi everyone, it has been a long time since I have posted a note. Since our European tour, I have been locked up in my studio writing for a new DOKKEN release: 'Lightning Strikes Again'. We have four songs left to write before we start recording. For those of you that loved 'Tooth and Nail', this new one is very similar: heavy melodic DOKKEN.
"I am also working on my solo record. The solo [album] is coming out nicely. Finally, I have been trying to get that one done FOREVER! It's not like 'Up from the Ashes' — it's kinda like STING meets COLDPLAY. I dig it, hope you all do as well.
"I will be spending the summer writing until they are done. I hope to have them in the can in time to hopefully get out on a fall tour. Until then Mick [Brown, drums] and Barry [Sparks, bass] are out playing with TED NUGENT for the summer since their tracks are done. Jon [Levin, guitar] and I will be finishing it up now.
"I see that there's a song on the 'Hollywood Rocks' CD. Really lame, Jeff's singing 'It's Not Love', a really old demo. Sounds bad, wrong singer, I don't get it, I don't recommend it; it's a rip-off to the fans. I had NOTHING to do with it. I suspect one of my ex-members is hurting for money so sold it even though he has no rights to the DOKKEN name but that's another story.
"We have a lot of cool things in the works. You'll all be seeing a lot of vintage DOKKEN t's in the malls soon. It's all the rage right now, as well as hats, keychains and other goodies they should be out around September in places like Hot Topics, Wal-Mart, Tillys and so on you will be able to get them at our web site as well. They will be original art from '85 thru '89.
"We are breaking out for one show this month. July 24th we will be playing the Hawgfest 2005 in Winter Park, CO. As I mentioned, Barry and Mick are playing with TED NUGENT this summer, but as Barry put it, it's our day job until DOKKEN goes out in the fall. So you can see them do double duty on the 24th, that should be fun!
"I'll be racing this summer for various fundraisers and I’ll send a few pics this week of my new toys. Two of them you're all gonna trip when you see these rides. Until then, keep the faith, enjoy the concerts this summer there's a lot of cool bands playing TESLA, QUEENSRŸCHE, WHITESNAKE, and MÖTLEY CRÜE. Should be a ROKKEN summer. Have fun — see ya in the fall!"
